EQUIAIRBAG® uses the same airbag system of MOTOAIRBAG®, which is certified according to the norm for personal protection equipment for motorcyclists.
The norm for motorcylclist protector requires levels of absorptions of impact more severe than the related levels required by the norm for horse rider protectors.
The inflated bag has been tested according to EN 1621-2 2003 "Motorcyclists 'protective clothing against mechanical impact - Part 2: Motorcyclists' back protectors" showed a transmitted force of only 0,9 kN. An excellent value when compared with the maximum level required by the norm
EQUIAIRBAG® protects the back only.
EQUIAIRBAG® covers the whole spinal column, from the nape to the coccyx.
For example, in the protected area, EQUIAIRBAG® offers a strongly higher protection during the impact, compared to a classic protector for horse-riding.

The airbag devices must be inflated very rapidly, before the horse rider could fall against an obstacle on the ground, after being unsaddled from the horse.
The protective bag is inflated in 80/85 milliseconds [ms] by a gas generator entirely mechanic which doesn’t use explosive components. The system is based on cold expansion technology which uses high pressure CO2 bottle.
It means for example that in a fall from the galloping horse to a speed of 500 meters/minute (30 km/h) the horse rider gets EQUIAIRBAG® entirely opened after only 70 cm.
EQUIAIRBAG® remains in protective condition for more than one minute. Than it gradually deflates.
The inflation time of 80/85 milliseconds ensures that EQUIAIRBAG® is already inflated and protective before the rider hits the ground, even if the horse rider falls from a short horse (e.g. falling from a pony).
No particulary horse reactions were detected during the activation of EQUIAIRBAG®.
The tests were carried out both in closed and open environments near different kind of horses.
